Muhteşem Yüzyıl Kösem (Magnificent Century Kösem) Episode 1 Summary

The weight of a great empire is on Sultan Ahmed’s young shoulders when he ascends to the throne at the age of fourteen after his father’s death. The young sultan is against rebellions within the land, changing power relationships in the international affairs, and conflicts and ambitions within the court.

Among these dark clouds the only thing that sheds light on Sultan Ahmed’s life is a beautiful girl he sees in a painting. Upon noticing how much Ahmed is affected by that girl Safiye Sultan brings the girl to the centre of the world Ottoman Empire as a gift to the crown.

Ahmed and Kösem embark a journey where they will carry the huge empire surrounded by enemies in the East and in the West on their shoulders and they will grow together with their love.

When Sultan Ahmed succeeds to the throne there is only one other heir left and because of the fratricide tradition in the Ottomans there are hardly any male children left alive. Giray brothers are ready to seize that opportunity.

According to an old tradition the heirs of the Crimean Khanate are kept in Istanbul before they become the khan of Crimea according to the sultan’s will. Mehmet and Şahin Giray brothers are determined to put an end to that tradition.

Th series will revolve around the era known as “The Sultanate of Women” where the sultans and their actions change the course of history. Queen Mother Safiye Sultan, Handan Sultan, Halime Sultan and Fahriye Sultan’s interventions, contacts and relations will change the Court’s destiny forever.

Another prominent element of the story is the Janissaries.The rebellious and brave heroes of the imperial army will influence the events at the very heart of the Court with their actions. Sultan Ahmed and Iskender’s companionship will become complicated with Iskender’s secret.
