MinT Yapım’s Mayıs Kraliçesi, starring Yağmur Tanrısevsin, is one of the most anticipated series of the upcoming season, but it created a dispute between Erdal Özyağcılar and the series’ producer Birol Güven.

According to Büşra Bozok Aytek of Hürriyet newspaper, Erdal Özyağcılar claimed that the story of a young girl who is a welder and car mechanic belonged to him and said: “I wrote the story titled ‘Yaşar’ in 2003 and turned it into a series script six months ago. I talked to some channels about the two episodes I’ve written. Then, Faruk Turgut from Gold Film took the script. Later I realized that “car mechanic girl” character of my creation is being used in ‘Mayıs Kraliçesi’. This is plagiarism.”

Birol Güven responded to this on his Twitter account: “The claim is that we stole Mayıs Kraliçesi from Erdal Özyağcılar, however this is not possible. We bought the rights of the series from Korea. Its original name is May Queen. It is one of the best shows of Korea. Its screenwriter is Son Young Mok. I want to emphasize this as much as possible: We paid for the rights to Korea. With all due respect to our esteemed artist and our senior Erdal Özyağcılar, but he can’t utter my name and the word “stealing” in the same sentence. Our attorneys will do whatever is necessary. Meanwhile our star Yağmur Tanrısevsin has been learning how to weld in İmes Industrial Estate for days. We will share the photos very soon.”
